Therapy for adults who grew up in care or were adopted
Growing up in care or being adopted can shape how safe you feel with other people, sometimes in ways that only make sense years later.
You might recognise some of this
- Finding it hard to trust, or holding people at arm’s length
- Worrying that people will leave, or leaving first
- Gaps in your story, or questions about where you come from
- Feeling different, or never quite at home anywhere
- Difficult feelings stirred up by becoming a parent yourself
How I work with this
I have worked with looked-after children and adults who were in care, in both NHS and voluntary settings.
Transactional Analysis looks gently at the patterns we learned early on to survive, and helps you choose which ones still serve you.
We take relationships, including ours, at a pace that feels safe for you.
