Therapy for veterans and service personnel
Military life asks you to push things down and keep going. When that stops working, it doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It means you’ve been carrying a lot for a long time.
You might recognise some of this
- Nightmares, flashbacks or feeling permanently on guard
- Anger that comes from nowhere, or feeling numb
- Finding civilian life, work or relationships hard to fit back into
- Drinking more to switch off or sleep
- Guilt or grief about things that happened in service
How I work with this
I’ve worked with veterans for many years. You won’t have to explain military culture or justify why something still affects you.
We start by building stability and practical tools for sleep and anger, before going anywhere near difficult memories.
EMDR is recommended by NICE for PTSD and doesn’t require you to describe every detail of what happened out loud.
